WOOD INLAY BANDINGS
Intarsia: the technique of inlaying wood with sections of contrasting wood, ivory, stone or metal with a history spanning thousands of years.
Wood inlay bandings are a vital tool used to add architectural complexity to a design by highlighting a certain feature, breaking up a large surface into smaller components, or providing the illusion of shadow lines. A subtle banding can have a dramatic effect on a piece of furniture whether it is a 40-foot boardroom tabletop, a quaint jewellery box or a musical instrument. All woodwork can benefit from an appropriately placed inlay banding.
We manufacture high quality wood inlay bandings in the time-honoured traditional way right here in Nipissing, Ontario. Our bandings do not contain any exposed end grain. We craft our bandings by orienting edge grain pieces of domestic and exotic woods, gluing them together then sawing to one millimeter thickness. This method produces a very sturdy banding that is easy for you to work with and accepts any finish beautifully.
Dimensions
Our standard bandings are 1/16” thick and between 36” to 39” long. Dimensions are nominal and may vary slightly due to the hygroscopic nature of wood.
Custom bandings
We also manufacture custom bandings for orders of any quantity. We can reproduce all our banding designs in any wood species. We can provide various diameter radii and rosettes to match all of our bandings. We’ve made custom bandings as thin as 1/32”, as wide as 2” and as long as 10ft.
